Piano Lessons

I teach beginning through early-advanced piano lessons to all ages with a focus on the classical literature. Students whom are advanced, I will recommend you to colleagues that I recommend and trust.   I use a variety of methods depending on the students learning style, age and level.  My go-to method for teaching is Piano Safari and with some students, Piano Adventures for the elementary aged or Tales of a Musical Journey for the young ones.  I incorporate scales and technique with all of the students that I work with.

Curriculum

  • Piano Safari

Piano Safari is the primary curriculum we use for new students. This method, highly researched by Dr. Julie Knerr, includes reading (intervallic), rote (copy me pieces) to work on patterns and sound, technique, and improvisation. It is particularly effective for intelligent students, aural learners, slow learners, and quick learners. After reaching level 3, we shift focus to classical literature and other early intermediate repertoire.

  • Piano Adventures

We also use the Piano Adventures method with students, which offers a well-rounded and diverse range of music. This is particularly beneficial for students who prefer a traditional approach or struggle with Piano Safari (PS), as well as for parents seeking a traditional style for their children.

  • Tales of a Musical Journey

    Tales of a Musical Journey

This is a story based approach that really work well with preschoolers to 1st grade student. It is based on the Russian Approach to Piano Playing focus on arm weight. This method introduces kids to singing tone, arm weight and other impotant concepts. Our instructor went through pedagogy courses taught by Dr. Irina Gorin to use this.

  • Classical Literature

    Classical Literature

Student in the studio will study the standard historical literature such as Mozart, Beethoven, Bach and Chopin. We tend to use a few collections in the studio, but one series that we use frequently is Bastien Piano LIterature and Keith Snell Books.

Repertoire Rich Approach:

On top of supplements, families will use about 2 to 3 supplements per level plus stuff from our lending library. We believe in reading so many different composer and genres to be proficient musicians! We start using this approach when students are in Level 2 of their method book.
